Who knew that knitting as a hobby could be so fulfilling? It sure surprised me! I am a beginner knitter who started knitting as a way to connect with other women, and I felt I needed a creative outlet. But the real gift for me is the “way” I knit. Or should I say, “how" I knit for whoever I am knitting for.
I find such joy in thinking about the recipient of the scarf I am knitting. The thought process is so joyful. Let’s see... “what color yarn should I buy for so and so?” ”What color would complement her complexion?” This simple process makes me happy. BUT again the “way” I do what I do is most fulfilling.
You ask, “what do I mean by this?” Well, I’ll tell you, I think about the person I am knitting for. I cherish the person I am knitting for. I see her face, I feel the essence of her beauty. I infuse love in the object I am working on and bless it as my fingers move through the yarn. It is such a happy time of “seeing” that person as a beloved child of God. It is my way of appreciating and honoring that person. I think, “how often have I allowed myself concentrated time to simply ponder another’s preciousness?”
I am learning to love the art of knitting especially the higher meaning of my new craft. To connect with another in thought, heart to heart. What a holy time!
